The word of His power

I am thinking of that verse in Hebrews one…..about God upholding all things by the Word of His power. I think it is mostly speaking about creation, but I am thinking about it in relation to His will, today….His power upholds His will.

I am thankful that He makes things happen in governments according to His will.

Last week (23 Nov), I filed my midwifery license app with some pieces not in place because I was not able to get everything on the list. I have jumped through hoops for 5 months to get what was needed and get it all certified and verified. Thank goodness for the ones on U.S. side who were willing to do some hoops, as well. The deadline to get my license in Zambia is Dec 9, since that is when my US license becomes invalid and cannot be renewed.

I went last week to file the app with what I had been able to gather knowing that if I didn’t do it now, I might not be able to do it later. After a brief glance through the file, one of the women really went to bat for me. Without me saying anything, this woman, whom I had spoken with a number of times over the months, decided that I needed to be interviewed right away. She began making calls.

Their offices are incredibly busy at this time of year as all licenses renew in December. There was anywhere from 20-100 people in there every time I stopped by in November, so making this happen took some Influence; these ladies worked long, full days.

The Registrar was out of town and only returned last night (1 Dec). They called me at 8:00 p.m. and asked if I could come first thing this morning. So, I went for the interview praying God would go before me with favor, that they would not be confused by Bastyr University’s transcripts that were not printed properly, and that the other elements of the application would be sufficient to meet their requirements.

When I arrived early this morning (2 Dec.), the office was already full and there was only one lady available to interview me because of the chaos. After asking some questions about my qualifications and experience, she informed me that I really did not fit under their jurisdiction because I am a doctor and not a nurse. Therein followed a discussion about where I should go to seek licensing and her conclusion that I really didn’t fit anywhere. When she finished, I just sat quietly watching her for a while, as I have learned to do, here. Eventually, she finished the interview and ended telling me that she really didn’t think they could register me, but if I would wait, she would contact the head of the council.

I sat for 30-40 minutes and reminded God (and myself) that it was His deal. If He wanted me licensed here, then it would be and if not then I would receive that from Him.

I am now a registered midwife in Zambia and licensed to practice (2 Dec)! 😯

After receiving approval from the head of the council, they pushed the whole thing through on that same morning! This thing that should have taken another month or two (they have stacks and stacks of applications) was done in two hours. With seven days to spare.

The word of His power.
